Deep Cleaning vs. Standard Cleaning: Which Does Your Home Need?
The real difference between a deep clean and a standard clean — what's included, how long each takes, what it costs, and when to book which.

“Do I need a deep clean or a regular clean?” is the question we hear most often. The answer depends on how recently your home was professionally cleaned and what you want to achieve. Here's a clear, side-by-side look.
What a standard clean covers
A standard clean is maintenance. It keeps a home that is already in good shape fresh and healthy: dusting reachable surfaces, wiping kitchen counters and appliance fronts, disinfecting bathrooms, making beds, emptying trash and vacuuming and mopping every floor.
What a deep clean adds
A deep clean does everything above, then tackles the buildup that slowly collects over months:
- Baseboards, door frames, doors and trim wiped by hand
- Ceiling fans, light fixtures and air vents dusted
- Grout scrubbed and hard-water spots descaled
- Cabinet fronts and range hood degreased
- Window sills and tracks detailed
- Under and behind movable furniture vacuumed
How long each one takes
A standard clean of a 2-bed, 2-bath home is about 3.5 labor hours — under two hours on site for a two-person team. A deep clean of the same home is closer to 6 labor hours, or about three hours on site. That extra time is why deep cleans cost more — see our rate card for exact prices by home size.
When to book a deep clean
- Your first visit with a new cleaning company
- Spring cleaning, or before hosting for the holidays
- After a renovation, illness or a very busy season
- When listing a home for sale
- Two to four times a year alongside recurring standard cleans
The best of both
Most of our recurring clients start with one deep clean, then switch to bi-weekly standard cleaning. Because the home is reset at the start, every standard visit stays quick, thorough and affordable.
